In a recent article on CBS News and many other news outlets, it is being brought to light that we are seeing a surge in drug shortages.

A concerning trend is emerging in the United States: a surge in drug shortages. Pharmacists across the nation are grappling with the impact of these shortages, affecting patient care and access to essential medications.

In the first three months of 2024, there were 323 active medication shortages, surpassing the previous high of 320 shortages recorded in 2014. This data comes from a survey conducted by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) and the Utah Drug Information Service. Notably, this marks the most significant number of shortages since the ASHP began tracking this data in 2001.
